Chronos

Intro:

Forian is a leader in RWD and RWE generation, and has developed one of the largest integrated repositories of healthcare data in the US. CHRONOS, Forian’s RWD hybrid ecosystem, is a novel offering that brings together open and closed claims, electronic health records (EHR), and social determinants of health (SDoH) data to meet research aims and enable insights generation across the clinical and life sciences industry.

The novelty of Forian and CHRONOS has led the way in the evolution of RWD  by linking these disparate sources together within one hybrid ecosystem in a harmonized schema. CHRONOS takes advantage of the data strengths and minimizes the weaknesses of traditional independent models, thus reducing the need to source multiple datasets to serve different research objectives. An advantage of the hybrid CHRONOS model is that both open and closed claims sources can be leveraged and linked with other sources, such as EHR and SDoH, to further enable a singular fit-for-multi-purpose asset, when necessary.

Open Claims Data

Sourced from RCM companies, practice management systems, clearinghouses and switches, Forian’s open claims data in CHRONOS includes submit and remit medical claims (from both institutional and professional settings), and retail and specialty pharmacy claims from 2015 to today. While open claims data doesn’t capture the entirety of claims for a patient’s full medical history, it does offer a valuable perspective on patient care outside the confines of a specific health insurance plan or health system.

Open claims have a longer period of patient follow-up, less data lag, and a more frequent refresh cadence (daily/weekly) than any other claims sources. Open claims contain information about the medical billing process, such as diagnoses and treatments, reasons for claim rejection, prescription rebates or coupons used, patient payments, and provider details, including referring physicians.

Forian’s open claims data captures national and subnational data on:

250M+ annual patients

8B+ annual claims

99% of practioners annually

6M+ total health care providers

98% of all payers across all payer channels

XX average number of claims per patients

Hybrid RWD Data

A hybrid RWD model combines the strengths of each data source, while mitigating the limitations found in the complementary data sources.

  • Open claims data provides insight into the uptake and treatment patterns of new therapies; measures incidence and prevalence of diseases and categorizes by patient, payer, and provider traits; and supports commercial targeting, market sizing, and patient profiling.
    • Combining open and closed claims data supports the stabilization of longitudinal patient cohorts and the evaluation of potential biases.
  • Closed claims data aids in outcomes and comparative effectiveness studies, exploring cost of care, unmet needs, treatment patterns, and disease progression.
    • Combining closed and open data can provide insight into out-of-pocket or out-of-network care, and expand visibility into the patient journey beyond periods of enrollment in a commercial health insurance plan.

  • Forian’s open claims data captures national and subnational data on:
    • 370M+ patients
    • 71M+ hybrid patients (with both open and closed claims) (DF 1 AND (DF18 OR DF7)

Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) Data

Sourced from a large commercial intelligence company, Forian’s SDoH data in CHRONOS includes demographics, socioeconomic factors, and purchasing behaviors of patients in both closed and open claim data. It expands traditional administrative RWD by incorporating patients’ race/ethnicity, occupation, education, marital status, family and household structure, household income, and purchasing behavior. This cross-sectional data offers insights into access to care and health behaviors not documented in a clinical setting.

EHR

Sourced from outpatient and ambulatory EHR companies, Forian’s EHR includes both structured and unstructured data inclusive of patient diagnosis, treatment, procedures, lab results, and vitals. Capturing data from 2015 to present day allows for unique and longitudinal record capture and integration into any patient journey or rare disease patient projects.
